Salt evaporation ponds are worked along the southern shore of Cam Ranh Bay, in what is now Nam Cam Ranh commune - an area formed on 16 June 2025 from the former Cam Lap, Cam Binh, Cam Thinh Dong and Cam Thinh Tay communes. Salt making is a long-standing industry across this dry stretch of coast, which also includes the much larger Hon Khoi fields further north in Khanh Hoa. The flooded pans turn into a grid of mirrors at dawn and dusk.
